Why Road Freight Still Wins on the UK–Turkey Lane
Despite the rise of sea and air alternatives, scheduled road freight remains the most reliable mode for goods moving between the UK and Turkey. For shipments where transit time matters but air freight is too costly, a weekly truck service hits the sweet spot.
A typical UK–Turkey scheduled service offers a 72-hour transit time from collection to delivery. That covers the long-haul drive across mid-Europe, customs at the UK side, and onward distribution at destination — all within a fixed weekly schedule.
Full Loads (FTL) vs Part Loads (LTL)
There are two ways to move freight on this lane:
- FTL (Full Truck Load) — you book an entire trailer for your cargo. Best for high-volume shipments, time-critical deliveries or sensitive goods that cannot share space.
- LTL (Less than Truck Load) — your goods share a trailer with other consignments. Best for smaller volumes that would not justify a dedicated trailer.
For LTL services, your cargo is consolidated at a depot, loaded onto the next scheduled truck, and unloaded at destination for onward delivery. Transit times are similar to FTL because the schedule is the same.
What You Need to Send Us Before Booking
To book road freight between the UK and Turkey we typically need:
- Collection address and contact
- Destination address and contact
- Description of goods (commodity, dimensions, weight)
- Number of pallets or pieces
- Commercial invoice (for customs)
- Packing list
- Preferred collection date
If your cargo is ADR (dangerous goods), temperature-controlled or high-value, let us know up front — we will allocate the correct equipment.
What Happens on the Road
Once the cargo is loaded, it is tracked across the route. The driver carries CMR documents, the customs declaration is pre-lodged via GVMS for the UK side, and any in-transit countries are crossed under T1 transit procedure when applicable.
When the truck arrives at destination, our team coordinates customs release and onward distribution to the final delivery address. You receive a confirmation when delivery is complete.
Tips for a Smooth Shipment
- Send commercial documents early. The earlier we have invoices and packing lists, the earlier customs can be pre-lodged.
- Pack for the journey. Pallets should be shrink-wrapped, labelled, and stackable. Loose cargo costs you space.
- Plan for collection windows. Confirm who will be at the collection point and what equipment is needed (tail-lift, forklift, etc.).
- Keep us informed of changes. Late cargo readiness or address changes can affect the schedule — flag them as early as possible.
